I get asked this question often enough that I thought it’d be a great video to do it in a quick video and of course, share it over here on the blog and YouTube.
You know — How the BLEEP are you supposed to make enough money as a Virtual Assistant (VA) or an Online Business Manager when you’re the service and there are only so many hours in a day where you can add only so many clients or projects in a day.
And, I’m sure you’ve probably have heard that this 1:1 business model is NOT doable or scalable or like me you hit a wall and are/were BURNT OUT. You’re probably working way more hours than the amount of money you’re bringing in.
We’ve all been there at some point in our business, you’re not alone!
In this video that’s exactly what we’re going to talk about how to take your business to the next level, without burning yourself out and make more money in your business.

There are only a few ways you can achieve this without changing your business model; increase rate or you need to have a different set of skills that are in demand that you can charge a premium for.
Option #1 Increase your Rates which we’ll come back to and;
Option #2 Offer in demand skills that you can charge more for.
Let’s start out with option #2. Offer in demand skills that you can charge more for.
If you’re fairly new to running an online business you’ve probably noticed that it is really different than working for a company as an admin, executive assistant [insert your previous career here].
AND, although many of your skills are transferable for learning the skills required in the online world they are different. I won’t lie to you it took me a bit of time to not only learn these new skills but to understand the processes and the, “Why” behind what I was doing.
I feel that a lot of mentors out there are missing two incredibly important factors when teaching or mentoring other Virtual Assistants or Online Business Managers in our industry.
They teach the skill, the tech or tasks but NOT THE PROCESS (the, “Why” behind the skill set!)
This is HUGE! I need you to stick with me for a second.
I see this a lot, and it EERK me. Where VA’s know how to do the task but they are missing ( the, “Why”). And because of this, they can’t identify where or when there is a break in the process. And, yes I’m sorry to say using the excuse that’s what YOU(the client) instructed me to do just doesn’t cut it. As professionals, we MUST take responsibility for our part in the process. If you want to get paid more then you have to do more than simply follow orders. (winky face here ;))
Besides upping your skills, this is what really will help you stand out in an overcrowded industry is being able to identify when there is a break in the process or a missing link — this skill alone of becoming the Subject Matter Expert (SME) in your area is what virtually makes you PRICELESS to your clients.
I feel this is where my experience of being able to look at the 50,000 ft view as well as the smaller details helped me stand out from my from my peers.
HINT: This is where niching becomes important and allows you to become the subject matter expert (SME) in your area. Not ready to Niche down yet? No worries do this instead: What you need to do before you Niche
I’ve had a bit of a rant, but as I promised you, I’ve pulled together a list of areas that have helped me take my business to the next level with my clients and I believe will do the same for you.
